I am an artistic researcher. Each of the selected works is driven by a desire to answer a question (research) and a counter-desire not to (art, perhaps). Alongside this process of questioning, I write and think about collectivity, commoning, and non-individualism within the Swedish art world.

While all art is collaborative, I like to highlight, question, write about my collaborations with others. I also enjoy when the artworks I produce have social qualities.

12 HOLD MY HAND

Artist Iza Štrumbelj Oblak struggles to keep up with her master’s studies. She asks artists Lea Topolovec and Yana Deliyska to help her graduate.

Blurring the lines between the project’s narrative and real life, they engage in a family roleplay. Lea as mom and Yana as dad become guiding figues for their off-track child, Izi.

11 HANDLEDAREN (upcoming)

This is the story of a self-entitled man, Arvid, who doesn't have any close relationships and whose goal in life is to produce a genius piece of work. His days start to change when he is visited by The Guide - a manifestation of Arvid’s subconsciousness in the shape of a person.

10 KARAOKE HARMONIES

Karaoke Harmonies is the act of two people in close proximity to one another singing two different songs at the same time  until the completion of both songs. As a social performance in Göteborgs Konsthall visitors were invited in pairs to walk onto the stage and pick two different songs to perform at the same time.

09 THE LOCKER ROOM

In autumn 2022 seven artists came together to build the Migrant Sauna in a workshop facilitated by artist Pablo Encinas Alonso. The much anticipated sauna experience failed to deliver as the sauna itself could not reach the appropriate temperature. In February 2023, Alva Qi Törnqvist and I as two of the participating artists in the workshop borrowed the physical structure of the sauna from Pablo in order to rebuild it and use it. We invited people to a gallery space where they could change into a swimsuit and wait for the sauna to warm up.

07 THE TABLE READ

Vulkano was a to-be-torn-down gallery space hosting the group show Varse. I invited two designers to do a public table read of a script which I wrote. The script itself is set in the utopic neighbourhood-to-be of Södra Änggården, the area where Vulkano is and would cease to be. An element of the script is the character of ONESELF which is a placeholder for every member of the audience and an invitation for them to perform to the script alongside the table read.

06 DUO-TO-SOLO PRACTICE

Duo-to-solo Practice is the collective title under which I archive events and social  performances connected to separation.

Shortly after our breakup in 2022, Turtu and I hosted a breakup party with prompts and games related to separation. In 2023, I exhibited one of the social prompts from the breakup party under the title Letter to Your Ex.

05 HE SAID, SHE SAID

The installation is a collaboration with the artist Andrea Oded. Each of us had previously produced a video essay on the topic of womanhood/manhood, asking questions on the performance of gender. In the installation we screened the two videos in the backroom of a gallery, asking the visitors to write the script of the movie which they are watching. The new script was filed in a folder as the installation was on.

04 AMAN

This is an essay film on a specific type of musical ornamentation done by Romani musicians. This ornamentation can be done both with musical instruments and vocals. Its origin is the Turkish-Persian word ‘aman’ which can be translated to ‘pity’ or ‘suffering.’

 03 GUILT

The essay film follows a person who realises their agency and is split between good and evil. In her binary view, there is space for only one of her selves and she has to make a choice between the more compassionate one.

02 AIRC

The Anti-individualist Reading Club (AIRC) gathers people who are interested in the topic of individualism and the social conditions it produces.

We have a deliberate goal of creating a homeplace wherever a session commences, and test out different methods of accomplishing this.
